De Gweck Joins Education Corporation of America as Staff Attorney

Education Corporation of America (ECA), the Birmingham, Alabama-based owner of Virginia College, Golf Academy of America, and Culinard, the Culinary Institute of Virginia College, has announced the hiring of Ben De Gweck as Staff Attorney for the company. De Gweck was most recently was an attorney at the Birmingham law firm of DonovanFingar, LLC, where he primarily represented a regional construction and heavy equipment company. While at the firm, he represented clients in all manner of legal and regulatory issues, including contract and real estate negotiations, labor and employment matters, banking and financing matters, and litigation. Prior to joining DonovanFingar, he worked with Wiggins, Childs, Quinn and Pantazis in Birmingham, where he focused primarily on employment law matters.

De Gweck is a graduate of the University of Alabama School of Law, where he earned his J.D. degree in 2003. While in law school, he completed an internship with a U.S. District Court judge. He also holds a B.S. degree from the Culverhouse School of Accountancy at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. While an undergraduate, he did an externship with U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R, AL).

"We are excited to have Ben join our rapidly growing company," says Roger Swartzwelder, ECA Executive Vice President, General Counsel, and Chief Compliance Officer. "He will be working closely with me to provide legal guidance and support across the company while he learns about our business." Initially, De Gweck will assume primary responsibility for leases and contracts and externship agreements.
