Education Corporation of America Promotes From Within As Company Expands
Posted: Wednesday, May 28, 2008
As the number of campuses and student enrollments continue to grow, Education Corporation of America (ECA) has announced several promotions of and changes in responsibilities for current employees. Michael Williams, Executive Vice-President of Human Resources and Development for ECA, says, "We are extremely pleased when team members distinguish themselves and enable us to offer them more responsibility. Each of these individuals has contributed mightily to our company's success and our promise of providing well-trained graduates for employers in the communities we serve."The promotions include:
- Don Newton, who has served as president of the Virginia College campus in Biloxi, Mississippi, since January 2006 will transfer to Jacksonville, Florida. Pending regulatory approval, ECA plans to open a Virginia College campus there in 2009. The company prefers to have its management team aboard well ahead of opening a new campus in order to establish relationships with employers and community leaders, and, where possible, to hire staff from the local area. Newton's move is expected to take place this Fall.
- With Newton's impending transfer to the new campus, current Director of Admissions for the Virginia College campus in Birmingham, Alabama, Chris Moore will become the new president in Biloxi. Chris has led the admissions team in Birmingham for over a year, and prior to that, he oversaw the admissions department at Virginia College at Austin, Texas. He will begin his duties in Biloxi, assisting Newton in the transition, after the June 30 class start in Birmingham.
- Sonya Hubbard has been promoted to Vice-President, Operations, for Virginia College Online, which delivers classes worldwide via the Internet. Ms. Hubbard joined the Birmingham campus of Virginia College in December, 2006, as the leader of the student financial planning office. She has already begun her new duties, replacing Ed Stanko, who is moving to Virginia College in Biloxi as Academic Dean.
