Virginia College Online Adds New Paralegal Program

Virginia College Online Adds New Paralegal Program

Posted: Friday, February 17, 2006

Virginia College Online has recently added the Paralegal Studies associate's degree to its lineup of curricula. Students in the program will prepare for careers as paralegals, a field in which they could find themselves working in courtrooms, corporations, insurance companies, governmental offices and banks, as well as in the traditional attorney's office setting. School officials note that this particular job area is expected to have better than average growth in the coming years.

"Every year, more and more lawyers are entering the workforce," says Virginia College Online campus president Dr. David Vaillancourt. "At the same time, more organizations are seeing the benefits of having skilled paralegals on staff to support them."

The U. S. Department of Labor agrees. Its Bureau of Labor Statistics 2006-2007Occupational Outlook Handbook states, "Employment (for paralegals) is projected to grow much faster than average, as employers try to reduce costs by hiring paralegals to perform tasks formerly carried out by lawyers."

In the new Paralegal Studies curriculum, classes are taught by instructors with real-world experience and emphasis is placed on the skills and knowledge that will best prepare graduates for the kinds of responsibilities they will encounter in the field.

As with all Virginia College Online programs, the Associate's Degree in Paralegal Studies is offered totally online, allowing students to complete the program in an "anytime, anywhere" format that fits into their busy schedules. No special computer skills are needed. A reliable connection to the internet is required.

"With the Paralegal Studies program from Virginia College Online, students will be able to enter a career that offers prestige and a brighter future," Dr. Vaillancourt notes. "And it is also one in which graduates can quickly and positively affect the lives of others, too."
