Two-year Degrees Now Popular at Online Colleges

Online colleges have traditionally catered to the older student or returning student who is interested in a bachelor's or master's degree, but recent shifts in the working population have increased the popularity of associate's degree programs.
Part of the allure of these new online programs is the opportunity to advance more quickly in chosen careers without committing to a full four-year or more bachelors' program. An associate's degree can be earned in about two years, making it easier for working adults to take online courses and get a degree that can increase their income more quickly. According to U.S. Government statistics, an associate's degree has a profound impact on income and promotions for most employees. The average individual with an associate's degree earns roughly $7,000 more per year than a high school graduate, with the difference even more pronounced in some states.
Stan Banks, President of Virginia College Online, explains, "Our traditional bricks and mortar schools have always concentrated on associate degree programs. We have found that there is a tremendous need for similar programs for online students as well. Whether they are working or have some other commitment, the online associate's degree program can be tailored to the needs of each student and get them out there and earning a better income more quickly."
"We offer several different associate's degrees in business, healthcare and law so that almost anyone can take advantage of a two-year online degree to improve their careers in the professional workforce. Courses like Criminal Justice, Healthcare Reimbursement, Human Resource Management and Paralegal Studies all give students a leg up on their careers without the time and money needed for a four-year degree. It basically gives them a two year head start on others enrolled in traditional four year colleges."
