Posted: Tuesday, May 4, 2010

The Augusta, Georgia, campus of Virginia College recently celebrated their first Career Week with a variety of activities. The Career Week theme was "Wrap Your Mind Around Success." The Career Services Department, with the help of other staff, hosted different fun activities to encourage student participation. Those included karaoke, poetry writing, stand-up comedy, best-dressed-for-interview and rapping contests. All the events were performed with the theme of "professionalism". Charles O'Byrne from the Admissions Department and Pharmacy Technician Program Director Andre Abrams kicked off each daily session with karaoke

Each day, the school hosted two professionalism workshops conducted by community employers. The theme was well represented by employers from two of the area's largest hospitals, two local staffing agencies, a career nurse, and a representative from the Department of Labor. Words of wisdom, knowledge and employer expectations were shared that all of the students will be able to utilize in their careers.

Campus President Chris Moore says, "We got rave reviews on this effort from students and employers alike. I was very impressed with student participation and staff involvement and look forward to many more career activities."
