Virginia College at Austin Hosts Health and Wellness Event

Over 200 students and staff at Virginia College in Austin, Texas, took part in a Healthy Living Fair sponsored by the school's Student Services and Medical Assisting Departments. Austin Chiropractic Health Center was on hand giving computerized spinal examinations through Surface Electromyography (SEMG). Planned Parenthood took part with pamphlets, giveaways, and helpful explanations. Gold's Gym talked to students about their fitness goals and offered a free body-fat/hydration assessment.
Consumer Credit Counseling Services, a nonprofit organization, was on hand with information about wise credit management and spending. Community Care, who will also be a participant in an upcoming career fair, brought information on low-cost healthcare clinics around the city. Student Services provided door prizes and giveaways, plus all the community info from the department was on display and in easy-to-grab format. Advanced Medical Assisting students checked blood pressure, pulse, and oxygen levels for over 120 students and Diagnostic Medical Sonography students displayed their 3-D Anatomy & Pathology projects.
