The Campus Evening Librarian at the Biloxi, Mississippi, location of Virginia College Biloxi was recently honored as the Biloxi Chamber of Commerce's 2009-2010 Special Service Person of the Year Educator Award. Margaret Evans received the award during a recent event in which the Chamber also recognized other educators from the area and awarded college scholarships to deserving students.

Each year the Biloxi and Gulfport Chambers solicit nominations for and recognize outstanding educators in six areas: Teacher of the Year (one elementary, one secondary), Special Service Person of the Year (nurses, counselors, librarians, coaches), Administrator of the Year, Rookie Teacher of the Year, Special Award for Outstanding Achievements as an Educator or Support of Education and Partner-in-Education. This years' Mississippi Gulf Coast Chamber of Commerce Excellence in Education Awards Ceremony, sponsored by Mississippi Power Company and Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, was held on the MGCCC Jefferson Davis Campus.

At Virginia College, Ms Evans provides library service to students who are enrolled in evening classes and their instructors by providing one-on-one instruction and assistance, library orientation sessions for entire classes, checking out classroom audiovisual equipment and helping to distribute textbooks. She works closely with Ms. Alana Crear, who is Virginia College at Biloxi's full-time librarian.
