Virginia College Biloxi Student Organizes Fitness Project

Posted: Wednesday, May 12, 2010

Criminal Justice student Richard Harper at the Biloxi, Mississippi, campus of Virginia College decided to take action when he read a report about how many Mississippi police recruits were not able to pass the physical fitness part of the police academy entry requirements. Richard rallied his fellow classmates to set daily walking goals and to participate in Relay for Life to support the fight against breast cancer.

Richard organized a team of Criminal Justice students to participate in the relay later this month and organized a bake sale to raise money for breast cancer research. The Virginia College Biloxi Criminal Justice students raised almost $200 in the bake sale and plan to do more fund raising activities such as a raffle to increase their donation to such a great cause. Richard has placed the Biloxi Criminal Justice team on the Relay for Life website and would like to encourage all Virginia College Criminal Justice students at schools around the country to support the team through online donations for breast cancer research.

Academic Dean Richard Schnorbus (in photo)and C.J. Program Director Chuck Harvey were there to support the students' efforts.
