Interior design students from Virginia College at Birmingham were recognized in recent issues of Birmingham Home & Garden and The Birmingham News. The articles featured the "Ready Suite" designed for the 2010 Decorators' Showhouse.
This is the 31st consecutive year the design students have been selected to create a key space for the Showhouse. Assisted by instructor Perry Umphrey and Program Director Jamie Stone, the student designers for 2010 included Cheryl Armstrong, Karen Beck, Rachael Eden, Alicia Hughes, Randi Kierce, Jennie Lowery, Stefanie Russell, and Allison Sands.
Described by Stone as a "complete must for the modern family on the go," the ready suite is a space where the family can plan schedules and daily activities. There's also a built-in storage bench and mirror to accommodate quick backpack-packing and last-minute hair fixes.
This year's Showhouse, featuring the former Richard Scrushy estate, raised over $250,000 for the Alabama Symphony Orchestra.
