VC Huntsville Business Club Provides Free Computer Training to Community

Posted: Thursday, August 19, 2010

For some, the lack of basic computer literacy is a barrier to a better future, so Virginia College students in Huntsville decided to do something about the problem in their community.

As a pilot event, the Virginia College Huntsville Business Club (VCHBC) held a free, basic computer training class this summer on campus. The purpose of the event was to help people in the community become familiar with the Microsoft Office software suite to better prepare them for job entry or promotion. In two sessions, attendees received hands-on training in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and Resume Building.

Representatives of VCHBC say participants left with a better understanding of the software components and now have the ability to create word documents, budget spreadsheets, and presentations. Some attendees left the event with solid resumes that will be presentable at job interviews.

Participants also received lunch and certificates of completion. VCHBC will host another training session in the fall.
