Since Phi Beta Kappa was established in 1776 to recognize outstanding academic achievement in liberal arts, the Greek letter societies have played an important role in American education and training. To recognize the academic achievements of private career schools, colleges and universities, the National Alpha Beta Kappa Honor Society was officially established.
Inductees were presented with an Alpha Beta Kappa cord to be worn at graduation, a Personalized Certificate with the Official Gold Seal of Distinction, The Alpha Beta Kappa Honorary Gold Key, a special letter of congratulations from the President of the Society, and red carnations, the official flower of Alpha Beta Kappa.
Alpha Beta Kappa seeks to promote and reward personal integrity and excellence in mental and physical work and skills without regard to race, color, sex, creed or national origin. Membership is based on merit; it is the uncommon person who qualifies for membership in Alpha Beta Kappa.
