Talking with your mouth full may be unmannerly, but hearing "the food is fabulous" was music to the ears of organizers of a cook-off competition in which Virginia College Huntsville students and faculty took part.
The recent first annual PASS IT ON Cook-Off was a way for participants to show off the student group's cooking skills as well as the recipes they contributed to the soon-to-be-published PASS IT ON Cookbook. Proceeds from the sale of the cookbook will raise funds for an upcoming walk-a-thon, "Raise Awareness for Childhood Obesity," benefiting the local St. Jude Program.
"We really didn't plan on this being an annual occasion," said Event Coordinator Lee Ann Bradford, "but so many people enjoyed the cook-off we decided to make it a yearly event."
Six judges decided winners in two categories: Healthy and Unhealthy. The judges for day and evening competitions were comprised of faculty, Student Ambassadors, PASS IT ON Members, and a guest judge, J.J. Thomas. Thomas is a student chef from California and son of VC Huntsville student, Stephanie Burnette.
