Staff Members of Virginia College Pensacola Meet U.S. Surgeon General

A community meeting featuring United States Surgeon General Dr. Regina Benjamin was recently held on Pensacola Beach, near Pensacola, Florida. In attendance were Student Services Associate Lawrence Powell and Career Services Director Michelle Sims from the Pensacola campus of Virginia College. The group discussed the profound need for mental health services for children and adults in communities that have been affected by the BP Gulf of Mexico oil spill crisis.
After the session, Sims met Dr. Benjamin. She told her about her about Virginia College students and graduates and the difference they are making at area healthcare facilities. A native of Daphne, Alabama, Dr. Benjamin was quite familiar with the Mobile campus of Virginia College and was very interested in learning more about the school at Pensacola.
