The recent and upcoming expansion of Education Corporation of America and its Virginia College campuses was the subject of a recent feature article in The Birmingham News. The article called attention to the upcoming consolidation of the two Birmingham campus locations into 100,000 square feet of space at the Palisades Center. It also highlighted projected expansion into Montgomery, Alabama, and Greenville, South Carolina, in 2008.

ECA CEO Tom Moore noted that the expansion is due to 41% growth in 2007 and is in response to demand from the business community for skilled employees. Moore is quoted as saying, "Having a multifaceted new career center (in Birmingham) will allow us to provide a much better learning experience for our students."

The story also highlighted changes in the school's retail operations in Birmingham. The school's restaurant, operated by the culinary program, Culinard, will be closing to the public but will be used as a venue for events and managed by Culinard Catering, a full-service professional catering operation that offers employment opportunities to students and allows them to shadow the professionals. The school's retail bakery will move to Innovation Depot, a new multi-office facility under development in downtown Birmingham.
