Virginia College Student Service Organization Promotes Fundraiser

Posted: Monday, August 9, 2010

PASS IT ON, the student service organization of Virginia College in Huntsville, Alabama, took part in a recent Saturday morning event that provided $5 physicals for youth athletes preparing for the 2010-11 school sports season.

Invited to participate by the Huntsville Parks and Recreation Department, VC students manned a booth promoting Virginia College and the upcoming PASS IT ON Walk-a-Thon. The September 12 event is co-sponsored by Fleet Feet and D1 Sports Training and Therapy and will raise awareness for the prevention of childhood obesity. All funds raised will be distributed through the Huntsville Hospital Foundation to the Pediatric Oncology Program.

Students Lee Ann Bradford, Mancy Hammond, Donna Nance, and Nikki Moses gave up their Saturday morning to assist with the event, speaking with potential walk-a-thon sponsors and approximately 200 families.

"They were professional, polite, friendly, and businesslike," Melinda Inglis, advisor for PASS IT ON, said about the students. "In fact, one company representative came over and told me how impressed he was with the employees at Virginia College and asked what their jobs were. He wanted to know if all VC employees were as professional and hard-working as they. He was even more impressed when I shared they were students and members of one of our student civic organizations!" Others contributing time and energy to the event were VC staffers Alicia Baugh, Shea Terracin, and Tammy Gilliam.

After the September Walk-a-thon, PASS IT ON will partner with other groups to assist the Huntsville Parks and Recreation Department in raising funds for the "Everybody Can Play" Playground, a playground for people with disabilities.
